soft top wont do any good. is that really going to stop someone from taking your subs?
leave the top on or remove all your valuables.

just bought this:
http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...portable+chest

if you put it near your roll bar, right next to the wheelwell its perfect. remove the tie down point behind it and you have 2 predrilled holes and then add 2 more elsewhere and youre good to go. ill be adding 2 locking hinges, one on each side, so its a lot more secure than its single locking hinge. cant beat it for 40!

i recommend this one due to the extra deep top. i didnt buy it necessarily to store trail tools and such but moreso to have more locking storage than a locking center console gives you. with the extra deep top you could fit your gfs purse or something similiar. either drawer clears a 2x20 tow strap too so youre good to go there.

not just that, it is actually against the law. A few years ago I help to develope an under door handle insert that would become electrically charged when the alarm was on. Some very "nice GOV men" came and liked the idea so much they shut us down. You can not intentionally install a product that could be harmful to others. It's like razor blades under the dash to keep people from stealing your radio! or a smoke bomb going off when power is cut from your ignition to hotwire the vehicle. it could cause bodily harm!

The clasps on the outside are fairly hefty, and you can put two padlocks on it.

It's weatherproof too.

And it wouldn't dent or get paint chips.

I think I might put some in my bed...

It's like my locksmith father says, if you really want in and have enough time, any lock is breakable. If someone really wants to steal your s***, they'll just walk up with a cordless cut off wheel and go to town on even a metal box. Or break your window and steal the whole car.
I really like this box, it would take me roughly 30 seconds to steal everything you have in it!

when i was in school learning mobile electronics I was taught how to steal so i would be able to better fend off thieves

Now this is a box!!! line this thing with fiberglass resin inside and out glue and seal all the joints and use one way screws (security screws) and you'd have a water tight theft deterrent that you could be proud of. 90% of thieves only pack two or three tools and rarely are they battery operated.

Also a note on this box. the hinges and clasps are fairly weak. think heavy duty double sided 8th inch steel. you could also incorporate your sub and amp into this type of box as well.

Let's not forget that the less things are visible, the less things are prone to being taken. Theives are more likely to steal something they see than they are to try to find something to steal.

I am in the process of building a drawer box simular to the wood one but made with anodized aluminum diamond plate. it will have an internal lock and opening similar to an under truck box by JOBOX or DELTA although a Truck Vault system would be great.

Just a warning, I had an 87 4runner when I was growing up. I put about 2500 dollars worth of stereo equipment into it. All they did was pop the sliding window, reach in unlock it and rip out the stereo and take the amp for my subs. I made a custom box for the subs and reversed the bolts holding em in, so instead of taking the subs too, they put a screwdriver right thru em in a couple spots. Basically what I'm getting at is that no matter what you do, if they want it they are going to take it. If they can't have it they might destroy it.

Smittybuilt G.E.A.R. seat covers are handy for small stuff. A lock box or chest bolted down to the floor or chained to the roll bar are good for bigger stuff. If you have split rear seats you can always pull the mounts off of one seat and put them on a lock box, that way you don't have to drill holes! The only problem there is that you would lose a seat during the summer.

I hid my amp behind the panels next to the rear passangers and secured my speaker to some 1" iron where the jack was and made a cover for the speaker .
Behind the panels is alot of room I will mount my inverter there also, out of sight. I dont have any pics of the amp install but basically on the same side as the speaker but further forward. Yea I know the carpets dirty!!

most recent way i found to spend money...
-2 front adjustable cupholders
-2 normal rear cupholders
-2 large locking storage compartments
--front is like 7x7 or something, quite deep too
--rear is 7x10 or so, fits a six pack (no joke, it even came with a 6pk holder)

if you remove your center console (1st gen 4runners) this thing will bolt right into the previous holes though you will have to drill through its bottom. it was designed for a jeep so its a tad wide. i removed the plastic edge from the inner side of both seats and the seat belt stiffener thing. its a minor inconvenience compared to the peace of mind the locks bring. it was somewhere around 133 after tax at my local 4x4 shop and about 110 on jcw (gotta support the shop, especially in these times).

if you notice the black thing on the lid. it holds cds i believe but it could totally be modified to fit a holster or a sub compact pistol

lol @ GEAR. those are condor or equivalent (forget what the other brands are) pouches and theyre soooo overpriced.

from the top left
-single frag pouch ~$8
-shotshell pouch- ~$10
-single pistol mag pouch ~$8
-gadget pouch ~$10
-utility pouch ~$10
-gas mask pouch ~$15
-foldable mag recovery pouch ~$15

imho the panel for your seat isnt worth 120.

Its A 10" Kicker

2 Pieces on 1" iron secured to the frame where the jack was , Plywood secured to the iron.

welded some tabs where the red lines are on the back and secured to the wood and 1" iron .If you look closly you can see the screws thru the grill.
