Topless 4runner owners
What have you guys done to secure the items in your truck with the top off?
The weather has been beautiful around here lately and I'd like to pull the top off the 4runner for a while, but I really don't trust people and I live in an apartment so its not garaged at night. Aside from taking anything worth value out, what have you done to protect your crap? I have a sub/amp and misc trail crap in the truck.. |
Bolt down whatever you can and remove the rest
|
I thought about bolting the sub/amp down..but if they still wanted the sub all it would take is a screwdriver to get it out of the box..

Ratchet straps and bungie cords.

Yeah i saw a pic of something like that, But if they can be put in with a simple flathead, Why cant the be taken out with a flathead...? :dj:

Chris
While seemingly expensive...Why not getting an ultra sensitive alarm so if someone even budges the truck, it goes haywire...Combined with that certain type screw and other certain measures, i think you would be good to go...:dj:

leave the top on for security or buy a soft top |
An alarm that sensitive would probably cost more than what everything in the truck is worth combined..Just doesn't really seem worth it, honestly.

Park a hungry 150 lb Rottweiler in the back.

I have an old army ammo box/ chest that is big enough to hold a lot of stuff. It is not bolted down yet though. I'm going to weld some nuts to the bottom of the 4runner bed and then use wing nuts on the inside of the box to secure it to the truck. Also the box is lockable.
I also have plans to replace the side panels and make them out of sheet metal that way I can have some locking compartments in them. It will look something like this: http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p.../sidepanel.jpg |

I got the box from work, someone had throw it away. So I don't know where it originally came from. I bet you could find something at your local surplus store.

When you tighten (turn right) the grooves in the head are like this...l...but when you go to loosen it (turn to the left) the groove is ramped like this...\...but at a steeper angle. when it is like this....l...the flat head has a good contact while tightening --->l (the arrow is the flat head lol) but when you loosen, the ramped side \<---- deflects the flat head up on both ends so it doesn't get any grip. In other words, it will slip off when loosening. Hopefully that made some sort of sense lol  :bigok: |
Good enough for me...:dj:

take the sub out of the box and bolt it from the inside...they wont know its bolts just that they cant get it out~!! :banger:
