I think that my timing is off but i do not know where to set the timing to. I have a slight hesitation upon acceleration and when you let off the gas it takes about 15 seconds to return to idle it sounds like it has a huge fly wheel that takes a while to slow down... It also has no power below 2k rpms i have the timing set to the 0 notch is that correct for a94 22re?

 

New info:
I just replaced the thermostat, and started the truck up,
it idled at about 2100 rpms... i adjusted that down to 900 ish and it was running beautifully a little out of time but not much. i lowered the hood and hopped in for a quick test drive, and Just as i buckled my seatbelt the engine suddenly with no warning started running really rough shuddering to stay running and running at around 200 rpms, i think it was running really rich. when i did the rebuild and i pulled the engine from the truck i broke a sensor on the front of the intake manifold. the one on the right (the green one) i replaced it with a black one (it was $20 cheaper than the green one and seemingly no difference... my understanding it that is the cold start sensor and i am wondering if i have the wrong sensor if that could cause the ecm to think that the engine was cold and dump more fuel into the engine?
it seemed like as soon as the thermostat opened the engine started doing this...
is there a way to diagnose the problem / sensor with out replacing it? i am low on money now and cannot afford to replace fully functional parts.

There's a sticker under the hood that gives the correct timing. In absence of that, the manual says 5°.

I don't have a 22re, so I can't begin to guess which sensor you are talking about. I'm also perplexed that you would think switching sensors around (even changing the color) would be a good idea. But since I don't know what a "black one" is anyway, I don't think I can help.

 

One sensor was way cheaper but there are 2 sensors on the im of a 22re And i think i have the wrong one...

 

The two sensors on the front are different. The one on the left (brown) is the thermo time switch for the cold start injector, the one on the right( green) is one of the coolant temp sensors. If I remember correctly that is the one that relays info to the ecu. So if its wrong, that would make sense as to why its running rough.
