Timing and distributor ?s

So I wanted to check my timing yesterday and followed the correct procedure to do so but found that my timing is at 5 deg but my distributor is maxed out counter clockwise/all the way up to achieve that timing! Shouldn't I have some room to adjust my timing advanced or retarded once in the 5 deg setting if I wanted? Or was the distributor installed incorrectly? Sorry if my explanation isn't clear.. And and my distributor body is also cracked so I'm guessing that will need to be replaced? Just curious if to get the correct timing the distributor is to be maxed out in that direction.?

Sounds suspect to me. Doubt it is a tooth off but possible. More apt to think:

it's an old chain and time to replace or

block and head have been decked thus chain is a bit longer than a new engine. To change that you would need an adjustable cam gear.

how's it running?
Do you know when last time timing set was changed?

It's a rebuilt motor about 500 miles ago... I cant say for sure if the timing chain wad was done also and nor do I have the guys info aanymore...it does run very well I think but I'm new to the Toyota world. Not sure how to proceed or if i should.. Just kinda bugs me that it's maxed out to one side.

I'd bet chain was replaced at rebuild. LC engineering sales adjustable cam gear and new distros too. But like anything from LCE it's spendy. Pretty sure theirs other vendors that carry adj cam gear just can't think of them at moment.

Yup that simple. Before doing it though, just incase you loose position, put the crank at tdc mark with the distibutor rotor point near number 1 cylinder. Mark the position that the rotor is pointing to on the distributor housing wih a black marker or something. Pull the distributor and move it one tooth. Then turn the housing so that the mark lines back up. You will now be back where you were with more adjustment.
