Timing chain replacement question.

Ok so i know alot of people on here do the whole timing chain replacement thing so i hope someone can help me out here. First of all this is taking entirely too long, its been like 2 weeks. I know it should be like a day project. OK so ive got the new chain, cam gear, and crankshaft gear on, and the drivers side is suppost to have less slack then the passenger side has, right? Well mine has the same amount of slack on both sides, and when i put on the passenger guide on it pushes the chain so theres even more slack on the drivers side and like none on the passenger side. How do i get it so the slack is on the passengers side?

Thanks
