my engine was rebuilt less than 400 miles ago and the timing chain has jumped already. malfunction in the tensioner? only thing i can think of. but anyway has anybody ever changed a timing chain/tensioner or guides without taking the head off.

it wasn't like that lol. I bought the truck with everything re-done. I am a diesel mechanic and if it was my truck to begin with this wouldn't have happend. ive only had the truck 2 weeks now, and only got to drive it half of that. ive cheked and called everybody and there's nothing i can do to get the guy to do anything, bc it was perfect when he sold it to me. pissed me off

Oh well. Time for a timing chain job.

Buy a kit with a chain, sprockets, tensioner and a new cover if you want.

Install is not that bad, just takes awhile. The 4crawler link is very helpfull, I used that and a writeup on 4x4wire for a 22r timing chain replacment.
