timing belt , tension
so i replaceded the water pump. got the thermostat back in , now i am on the timeing belt , the tensioner wont hold any tension and its cranked all the way, looked in hymans , doesnt say anything . any ideas?

What do you mean by "it's cranked all the way"? The tensioner isn't adjustable. Which type is it? A spring or the piston type, like shown in the FSM here? http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b...67timingbe.pdf

Well, if it aint the one in that FSM page I linked there. And it ain't the one in this link https://www.yotatech.com/forums/show...0#post50551990 then I'm stumped. Only 2 I'm aware of. We are talking 3VZE here, right?

I just had a thought. If there's an allen key sticking out of it, pulling it out will allow the tensioner to function. The key would be there for installing the tensioner and should have been removed.

YOu should put your vehicle info in your sig so that people can help you out easier. YOu still haven't said whether or not you have the 4cylinder or the v6

Oh, it's behind and to the left of the fan bracket. YOu should have to pull it to compress it and then reinstall it. YOu will need a small allen wrench to hold it compressed and you pull it out once the belt is installed.

The tensioner pushes on the back of the idler that is right behind your hand in that picture. It appears to not be there, I believe you install it after you put the fan bracket back on. Is it still attached to your fan bracket?

when i did mine it had a spring that gave the idler pulley tension but mine is a 1990.Yours is newer so I don't know what holds tension on it .Maybe invest in a manual or look at one at a parts store .From the pic it looks like one of your cams jumped time .

Good eye. That's what happens when there's no tensioner. His doesn't have the spring kind, it's got a piston type tensioner.

Look behind your hand where the arrow is pointing, next to that number 1 pulley to the left when facing the engine is where tensioner is mount and it is mounted on the fan clutch bracket. Right now as other said, you do not see the tensioner until you install the fan clutch bracket. You need a hydraulic press to press the piston on the tensioner then install a hex key to keep it in place and then install the rubber boot. If you do not have a hydraulic press, use a big vise and a small socket enough to hold the piston and act as a pusher, make sure the tensioner is straight and so the piston to prevent slippage and also make sure the holes are line up to make it easy for you to insert the hex key. Then compress the vise slowly and watch the piston go in. Any question let us know.

You DO NOT have to have a hydraulic press; you can put it on the fan bracket loose & tighten it a little on each side bolt as you go until it's all the way in.
MAKE CERTAIN you DID NOT let your timing belt jump a tooth while you had it loose!!!!!

thaks guys , i marked the shafts with white out so i wouldnt get the timeing messed up , i found the tensior on the fan braket. now i gotta wait for my dad to get back monday to install
