Timing on 22RE
I just joined up and have spent the last week or so doing some research on timing with the 22RE in my new-to-me 1995 4Runner. I understand how to set the timing(jumper E1 and TE1) and have already done so, but am curious how far advanced you can go. I know people have run 10°+.
I am not so much worried about knock. I am at 6500' of elevation and running 91 octane because its only $0.10 more than 87 octane here. So I should have a ton of head room as far as knock is concerned. What I have not been able to really figure out is how far the ECU will electronically advance the timing above the base setting. So If I set it 5°, will it add another 20 for 25° total? Or will it add 25°, 30°, etc?
I guess what I am getting at is how far can I advance the timing before the ECU ends up sending it beyond the point where there is no further benefit and you have passed MBT? I don't want the ECU to advance it to 45° or something crazy.
