timing

Hi,
I just built up a 22re on an 89 4 runner. It runs... Just rechecked the timing chain, sprockets lined up, looks good. When I place the distributor holding bolts in the center the timing is way out in 20 degrees or something. The distributor bottom out a 5 degrees no less. Any suggestions on how I can get the range from 15 to zero or below? Thank you James

Welcome to yota tech! Are you sure you marked the crank in the correct spot? This is a common error when checking timing. Make sure the distributor is in correctly.

Also, are you jumpering the TE1 & E1 terminals in the diagnostic plug when checking timing and idle is about 750?

Wink

Hi thanks for the replies... I'll get a picture of my 89 stock runner up. What do you mean by lining the crank up correctly? I'll take all the advice I can get and I'll give some in return. Happy 4 running...

Oh I see what you're saying about the crank, ya I think it's at tdc when the mark hits zero... I'll go double check on both...thanks

My 88 and 91 have 0, 5, 8 and 12 degree marks on the pulley.
