I know how to do it, but I don' know what the best components to use are. I've heard different opinions about Bosch, NGK, and Denso, but everybody has their favorites. The engine that I want to do the tune-up on is a 3VZ-E which needs the full job (cap, rotor, plugs, and wires) and I want to use only quality parts. I need your opinions! I can't decide!

I have Bosch +2 spark plugs in my '87 and they do just fine (don't foul as often, engine burns oil). Not to contradict you though

How much are toyota wires (don't exactly have a local dealer to ask)? And also, how much longer do iridium plugs last then platinum?

well remember that denso builds most of toyotas electrical parts so if you can find denso wires you will be just fine, if the truck burns oil i wouldnt worry about a high dollar plug just a basic denso or ngk would work, as for the cap and rotor denso or ngk, you can run a cheaper cap and rotor but it might not last as long, i guess all im saying is keep it toyota (denso) and it will last alot longer remember toyota takes everyones ideas and perfects them!

I went with the NGK blue wires for $32.36 but pd. my own shipping so something like $43.

The NGK wires are blue unlike the stock black wires. They do not stay in my Toyota OEM Distributer cap. The stock Denso Wire set has the distributor clips which keep the wires in place. the old ones can be reused if you still have them and then the NGK wires will perform just fine.

We are using the NGK wire set and getting 18 mpg.at freeway speeds. About
the best mpg for a heavy 4 x 4.

Let us know what you go with; most guys so the Toyota wires are no place to skimp.

 

I wouldn't replace the plug wires unless they're out of spec (use the tests from the fsm)

the multiple electrode plugs are crap. as soon as it wears a bit it wont fire through both, and they just block the air/fuel mixture from the spark.

I've thought about using the iridiums, but I'm too inpatient to order them, and they're never in stock. maybe some day...

I like to pull the plugs pretty often (its really easy with the 22re) so I can check how the engine is running.

Well, its been two months and I'm finally going to do my tune-up. I decided to go with Denso iridium plugs and wires, but nobody really told me which are a good quality cap and rotor. Thats all I really need to find out before I start my tune-up

NGK and Denso are my top choices for plugs and Toyota uses both. Has any one ever taken notice that the OEM plugs on the 3.4L (from the factory) had NGK's on one side and Denso's in the other? The heads were cast and assembled in two different plants. I would go OEM on cap/rotor/wires.

Give them a call and work something out. I've always done CC over the phone. Guess you could do a MO, but that would take a while for them to receive it, cash it, send parts, etc.
