Time to rebuild

The time has come to give my 88' 4runner a new heart. I know where i can get a block and heads for cheap, (180 bucks from my local p-n-p) aswell as a reputable machine shop within a mile of my house for my decking/polishing/porting/hottank and
magnaflux needs. My question is... i have seen several ppl here refer to egnbldrs.com for rebuilt engines, but not sure i recall them for kits. So any advice for decent rebuild kits would be greatly appreciated. Anyone who has used a egnbldr rebuild kit, was it worth it? it seems to be a little less costly them some on ebay. I'm not really worried about saving 100 bucks, more worried about quality. Thanks everyone!!!!!

No.. Not true... All 3.0 blocks are not the same... there are different motor mount bosses on the different years....
Luckily for you and I, we can use any engine in our trucks, because they are 88's. But the later trucks cannot use the earlier blocks, because the bosses are not there for the later engine mounts...
I have a link that explains it and shows it better....
I will post it when I find it....

well thats good to know. I think after reading the previous wright ups concerning the rebuild kits, imma go with the engnbldrs. Now need to find where to buy some valves and where to send my injectors to be cleaned.

I think engnbldr.com is the place for engine parts, and witchhunter.com is the place for injectors...... Search the forum and you should find out the place to send the injectors....
I am guessing at the witchhunter name. I think that is where I have been planning on where to send mine....

http://www.witchhunter.com/

Do you have a machine shop that you are going to use????

I have one by me, but it is a but scary to send a Toyota engine to just anyone that I have no info on.....

B4, yeah i have a machine shop next to mid atlantic 4x4 off ritchie hgwy. It's literally 4 blocks from my house. Talked to the owner a few days ago, and he actually has extensive knowledge on 3vze's and 22re's. Prices arent that bad either. I plan on going to Crazy Rays possibly tommorow to pull some heads.

How bad are your heads.....?
Look into getting a set of remans and see what the price difference is.. May be surprised. Should be able to get a pair for under $500 (about $250 ea.)

I actually had my 22re head rebuilt by them a bunch of years ago... I found out after getting it done that it would have been cheaper to buy a reman than have them rebuild it.....
That is one thing that I would have liked them to tell me.. Would have done wonders for their customer service score with me......Otherwise I was very happy with them. They did great work.

They are the one in the back of the Fischer Auto Parts store? Right?

If you want, I have a set of 88 heads and the 93 block is still in my truck...

I am keeping the late model heads because I am converting over to the late model hydraulic tensioner as opposed to the mechanical spring tensioner that is on the 88s.

The 88 heads have a horribly burnt #6 exhaust valve....

Is yours dumping a huge amount of smoke... That is what happened when my valve went....There is actually a hole in the valve....

You should think about doin some home brew headers on the 3.0 it would save you from a burnt valve on 6 and help against the headgasket failure.
