Time to re-gear or not?

To start off I have searched and found the chart that post gear raitos and I looked at my door jam to see I have code G254 4.56 gears.
Now for the story I blew my front differential, BAD i checked all my fluids before driving 3 hours home from school like i always do my front differential was low so I topped it off then headed home, once home it was snowy so i left my hubs locked in just not in 4WD, then the other day I put it in four cause there was so much snoe in my drive way and the truck started making a grinding noise and hopping, so i threw it on a lift went to check my front diff. level and it was completly gone, my front pinion seal was shot and all fluid draind out in about 1 week. and there were gear teeth coming out when i pulled drain plug and put magnet up their.
So do i replace front with 4.56 or do I go ahead and swap rear out right away with 4.88 which i believe is code G144 please correct if i am wrong. I will be running 265/75R16 soon with 3.0 auto but can not afford to go with 5.29 so I am thinking 4.88

Are you going to look to buying factory 4.88 diffs? Or are you having a shop do it? Cause I talked to the local off road shop here in Topeka when I blew up my rear diff and they quoted me the exact same for 4.88's and 5.29's

I was going to replace it with factory thirds my self, there is a recycling yard around here that sells there parts with 1 year warranties I can get a 4.88 for the front for $140 with warranty A little high i have seen cheaper but i like the warrenty. the problem is they do not have any for th erear so i have to pull one out of a different yard and I wanted tomake sure that G144 was the code i was looking for.

The fuel econ you'll gain will probably pay for the diffs in a year- so pay now or pay twice later.

Keep this in mind. Once you have these, you'll have to go through the whole shebang to get 5.29's. If your thinking you might want 5.29's, I would just go that route from the beginning

you got the 3 slow and auto go 5.29s

if you came with 31's you might already have 4.88's. do you have an abs plug on your diff?

this might not be exactly the right thread for this but i did some searching with little luck
also, this might be a stupid question but hey i'm new to the 4x4 world.

i was reading another thread, which i can't seem to find right now, and a guy was talking about calculating his gas mileage and he had I think 33's on his truck. he was saying that he had to recalculate the mileage because he had larger than stock tires with stock gears

I guess my question is that i am looking at purchasing a 92 4x4 that is currently running 31 or 32's. Will the odometer mileage be lower than the actual mileage or am i just reading into this too much. Thanks in advance for any help or a link to where this might be covered.

Yes your speedometer will be off
No I do not plan on going to 5.29 I can not afford it I want to run 4.88 because i might as well while i am replacing the front end anyways pluse i was running my 32's with 4.56 and i did not really mind it all that much unless pulling a trailer. I mostly just want to verify that G144 is the code i am looking for but i found a good site.
