tie-rod adjustment problem

Went up to kal tire to get an alignment after putting in my idler arm, wheel bearings and bj spacers. They tell me my wheel bearings are STILL too loose. Whatever. So I printed off the DIY alingment instructions from SDORI. First wanted to do the adjust the toe because its pointing in about inch. I couldnt get the adjusters to move for the life of me!! After about 20 mins I got the clamps loose and moved out of the way, but the sleeve would not budge. The whole tie-rod flexes a little but no adjustment.

Is there a trick to this or are my tie-rods seized?

They should be fine, I had my steering recall done back in spring and they apperantly have to adjust the toe after doing that....

This thing has turned into the biggest PITA ever. Im about ready to chop it all off and do a sas.

Propane torch & a BF pipe wrench. (or PB blast and wait a day)

They can be stubborn if they ain't been moved in awhile.

Just a quick hint with the torch...heat the sleave adjusters not the rod ends.

Well I soaked them REALLY good, got as much as I could into the threads. I guess I can give it another go tomorrow.

I wish I could throw my stock wheels back on right now.

I just did this yesterday. Got too damn fustrated with it, went and spent $40 on new tie-rods, took the old ones off, clamped the sleeve in a vise and put a pipe on the tie rod to spin them out.

I'll second the torch and pipe wrench, and raise you using PB with the torch and adding a screwdriver and a hammer to it. Mine were seized solid but I broke them both loose after about an hour of working on them.

That said I installed the front end rebuild kit about a month later and now I have nice shiny new ones.

I'm in exactly the same boat right now, but I'm not going to throw money at it unless there is absolutely no other option. I'm bringing in an acetylene torch tomorrow.

Any more words of wisdom for breaking seized adjuster sleeves loose???

Patience and persistence. I didn't think mine would ever break loose but they finally did. Since this thread was active a year ago I already need to go change out one of the TRE's because the boot exploded. I'm just hoping my new adjusting sleeves aren't seized yet.

Mine were the same way. I doubt the PO ever got an alignment the way that the parts were seized up. After trying to separate everything, I ended up replacing all the tie rod ends and the sleeves. The sleeves can be found at Autozone fairly cheap, in case you need to get some.

I 2nd / 3rd or whatever the pipe wrench. Didn't need heat for mine - it was a big pipe wrench!
