Throttle issue
I bought my 4Runner used, there were a lot of problems, but I was able to fix most of it up. When I'm driving down the road and release the throttle, it pulls on the truck, as if I'm in too low of a gear. I've tried shifting into a higher gear, and it still has the same problem. Also, sorry if I put this thread under the wrong area, I'm still new to posting. Thanks in advance.

is it a sudden deceleration feeling? sounds like that is what you are indicating by saying 'as if in a lower gear'. describe your truck more, motor, trans so we can better help you.

From your post it sounds like something is dragging. As dumb as this may sound to suggest is the e-brake hanging up? Maybe a brake pad/shoe somewhere that is rubbing?
Take it out and drive it, get it up to speed and pull it out of gear (assuming you have the manual tranny). If it still "pulls down" then it's something in the drivetrain other than the motor. Perhaps a bearing that is dry? Have you checked the fluids in the diffs, tranny, t-case?
Just some thoughts to get you started.

It's a V6 3.0 it has a manual transmission, no there is nothing dragging because when I put it in neutral it coasts fine. It doesn't slow down too much either, just enough to feel it. Which is the reason that I'm completely stuck.

Fan clutch stuck? Does the fan slow right down and hardly move when the truck is idling and warm? If the fan is at full engine speed then it is NG.

I don't think that it is the fan but I'll check it out. One theory of mine is that the intake valve might be dirty, because the gas pedal has been sticking, I'll try to get to it tomorrow.

what work (if any) have you done to the engine?
otherwise, it sounds like you're experiencing engine braking effects.

if it's not doing it any worse than it was before the work, I wouldn't think you have a problem.
not knowing anything about the truck makes it hard to diagnose. could be a result of gear ratios, cam, transmission problem, dragging brakes, etc.

I bought it about 2 months ago, it was doing it ever since I drove it home. I have been doing a lot of work since it was in pretty bad shape, and haven't gotten to drive it since some the work due to the heater core being broken. When it gets inspected I'll ask the mechanic about it then. Thanks anyway guys.

I thought I would bring this back from the past to maybe help someone. I was having problems with my 22re this same as this. Let off the throttle and the "jake Brake"comes on.
It turned out to be that some vacuum hoses were on the wrong tubes. This was causing the fuel pressure regulator to open under deceleration because of the vacuum when the throttle plate closed. So the fuel was actually shutting off. So it was like you shut the key off while driving. But once the engine idled down the vacuum would go away and it would idle fine.
Take it for what its worth.......
