Thoughts/Comments/Gotchas on possible acquisition of 89 SR5 v6

I’ll try and keep this brief. I have the opportunity to by my dads 89 yota from my stepmother. SR5 v6 4wd auto extended cab with 78k miles. No rust, always garaged southern vehicle. hasn’t been driven much in last 10-15 years. It does start and run, but clearly needs some maintenance (gas drained, all fluids changed, new tires, etc). No obvious leaks at present but what else should/needs to be replaced: injectors, timing belt, water pump, other items?
What would be a reasonable price? I already have a 2007 Honda Ridgeline which I don’t put many miles on (130k) and is in good condition but the thought of having dads last truck is appealing, but I don’t need a new hobby if it’s going to need constant maintenance.
Thoughts? (Photos attached) Thanks.

Oooooo it looks nice, without knowing your personal backstory with the stepmom I have no clue what to pay, I also would have no idea what it may possibly need.

Constant maintenance and getting it current from sitting is two different things. I would imagine once you get it dialed in these trucks are very reliable.

Are you able to do the work yourself? If not if you have a trusted mechanic I would get it inspected and see what it could need and go from there, but if it were me I would buy it and go with it, being dads last truck and it looks to be in awesome shape you may regret not buying it later in life, these are hard to find in good shape anymore……

You can't really do the pricing. If you want a guilt-free transaction than she'll have to set a price she's comfortable with. Then you can decide whether to buy.

A big factor is how would she sell otherwise? Is she willing to deal with the public as a private seller to get top dollar? Or is she one who hates that, and would trade it in and get a low wholesale value? Not many people have the stomach to sell on their own, and in that case you could probably agree on a price that's attractive to both parties. It’d be a shame to let that vehicle go. The 3vze in 1988-89 was pretty solid. It didn't have the same issues as the 1990 and newer, probably because of asbestos gaskets and a vehicle that weighed a lot less.

This is all assuming you'd keep it if you got it. If your plans are to resell than you should offer to sell it for her, and get a commission for your efforts for dealing with the public, monies, DMV, and paperwork.

. Safe to say that a few thousand dollars will easily get spent getting her back up to a reliable level. All the fluids changed, tires, battery, timing belt and waterpump, hoses, etc etc. Then you'll have the things you didn't plan on.
