Thinner main seals?

So i'll be putting my new 22R-E together in a few days here, and the crankshaft is grooved in the front and back. I have a repair sleeve ready to go, but i've heard some horror stories and would rather go a different direction if possible. I know the front main was revised on later engines from a 45x68x12mm to a 45x68x7, so replacing with the later seal will move the lip away from the groove. As far as i know, the rear main was never revised. The rear main included in my rebuild kit from engnbldr is an 80x100x12mm. I've found that 90's hondas and acuras used an 80x100x10mm and i'm considering using that instead. The seals are the same type, and I figure 2mm farther back should be enough to get it away from the groove. Can anyone see any problems with this? If it ends up leaking in the front, i can easily fix that, but i CAN'T have it leak in the rear. Thanks!

Why are you scared of using a repair sleeve. If you instal it correctly and let it set up overnight, they are pretty solid.

I don't know of any "thinner" rear main seals...only front ones.

I know marlin WON'T use them under any circumstances, he says they will always leak. He goes so far as to sand down the seals on a belt sander to allow them to seal deeper. Plus the sleeves didn't come with any kind of installation tool, and i think i'd flat out feel more comfortable with the seals riding on the surface they were meant to. Toyota seals aren't Toyota specific, they're just normal oil seals and you can get them in just about any inner diameter, outer diameter, and thickness you want. I'm just thinking about using the same inner and outer diameter (80x100) and getting a 10mm thick one rather than the stock 12mm. Here's a thread where people are doing just that with the front seal - https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f114...81-2wd-126295/. I don't see any obvious issues with doing the same thing on the back, but maybe i'm missing something.
