Thinking about manual swapping my 4runner. Need some input
So I just finished my 3.4 swap in my 1992 4runner. It has the stock auto transmission and the 3.4 is from an auto. Wondering what it would take to manual swap this. What transmission would fit best? Should I get a 3rd gen or a 2nd gen manual? Tried posting in 3.4 swap section but got no response

The R150F from a 2nd gen 3.0 truck has a shorter input shaft than the 3rd gen 3.4 trucks and the clutch slave is on the passenger side. The later R150F (3.4) has a longer input shaft (deeper bell housing) and the clutch slave is on the driver side.
Both will bolt on and work but you have to consider where your exhaust will be, where the shifter location is for what you want to do. IDK what T-case options they have though.
I'm running a 3.4 flywheel and clutch, 3.0 bellhousing, R151F transmission and R150F gear set (didn't like the Turbo gear ratios with the 3.4) and two RF1A T-cases. The exhaust on my truck comes down the driver side so the 3.4 bellhousing and slave would have been a problem. I could have run the 3.0 clutch as well.
I have old posts in the 3.4 swap section with info on the throw out bearings and shift forks interchangeability but the pics are all gone. I might have them on my computer somewhere.
I'm guessing that an R150F from the same generation truck as yours would be the easiest one to use. IDK what has to be done for the ECM but it's probably in the stickies of the 3.4 swap section. My swap thread was back in 2012 or so and it was for a 2nd gen pickup with a 22RE. Feel free to shoot me a PM with any questions. If I can help I will. Good luck with your swap if you do it.

I just pretty much completed this myself. 95; from auto to 99 variety 5spd. The actual trans was from a 94. Of course the 3rd gen (I believe all from 96(?)) had LEFT / driver side drop on the transfer case. And the extension housing and transfer case will NOT go on a true 2nd gen. (The output and the 5th gears are different). Oh, one other thing I wish I'd done: swap that 5th gear for another. Was threads around about R154 etc, but they don't work. However I THINK its ToyOnlySwaps or YotaONe (some of them west coast folx) have a special 5th that would be awesome. If it ever comes apart again, that's going on.
Else AZtoyman is correct about all rest too. Also, get a complete donor if you can; The 5 spd manual 5VZ has a different ECU than autos. But IIRC folx in the swap threads school on how to work around it.
At least for the 99 (also I think the 00 was same) those ECMs are like chicken teeth. And spendy-spendy. AND the ECU pins/ plugs vary from year to years.
Pretty much real happy with mine. somehow seem to be getting about 18ish mpgs. But NOT at a legit 75-80 (still have the 4.88 ratios).
