thinkin of rebuilding the 3.0

I spun a rod bearing and tore everything up over the summer and just replaced the bearning and prayed. So far it still runs ok but I drive it as little as possible.

My plan was to swap a 3.4 into it but its too dang hard to find a donor vehicle, or too expensive when i do.

So i looking to rebuild this one i guess. Engbldr kit for sure from what I have read. What needs to be done to the block. I have done Chevy motors but LONG ago. Bore, hone, deck, cam jounnals and bearings, plugs installed. Am i missing something?

Decking the heads and block makes me nervous as too compression changes. I dont want a race gas motor. The damn gasket scares the hell out me too I gotta admit.

Any good rebuild threads out there. I did search but didnt find much.

uhm..you dont HAVE to get your block decked..and your heads shaved..unless they are not square???????

now if you want to just for kicks and giggles then be my guest..lol

my 3.0 has done the same thing..spun a bearing..

but i figure since it's gonna be out of the truck and tore down anyway....why not just rebuild it..so im likely getting a new set of rods..and the engnbldr kit..and crank turned/replaced..then throwin it back together and drivin the dog piss out of it..lmfao

of course i plan on 3.4 swappin in about a yr or a yr 1/2..lol

i wouldn't worry about the block too much but i would surely send the heads to a machine shop. i paid almost $500 to have my cylinder heads machined and rebuilt at a perofrmance shop and at this point it has been totally worth it.

the engine i put in my truck ran but had a mild headgasket problem, the best blown headgasket iv ever seen lol, it still ran basically fine but.......... when i took the heads to the shop they found i had two bent valves. so u never really know what could be wrong.

oh gawd..i don't wanna send my heads off lmao, it didnt have any funny noises, and i hope i don't have to adjust my valves as i've heard its a PITA on the 3.0

i want a set of freaking cams!!! but idk what would be best for my style of driving lol, most places i've seen make custom cams to your choosing, i want something to be of significant use from about 2000-redline or so LOL..maybe not redline, but up there a ways into the rpms in case i ever need it, i don't want the motor to fall on its face like my 22R does once it hits 4500 rpms lol
