Thermostat and Lower Radiator Hose
Long story short, my Runner was taking forever to heat up. I have a decent enough of a relationship with the guy that I bought it from, I gave him a call and asked him if he did anything with the thermostat. He had installed an auto-zone special that was not all that effective.
So I picked a Toyota thermostat and installed it, everything was fine yesterday. I fired it up to see if there was any improvement on warm up time, reduced the time by half. The bad news was my lower radiator house sprung a leak, not a big deal I went and replaced the hose.
The hose looked fine, but the clamps had seen better days.
Now that I'm all cleaned up and everything seems to be in order, I have a question for all you Yota Pro's out there. If this a sign of something else? Or could the pressure made from a working thermostat test the clamp on the lower hose?
Thanks
Thomas

The hose was fine but the clamps were shot??
Where they the original clamps or had the clamps been changed over the years.
The pressure is controlled by the radiator cap thermostat has little to do as system pressure is dependent one the pressure rating of the cap.
perhaps it is time to change the rest of the hoses as well

As far as heating goes, I pull the hoses off of the motor to the heater core and flush it both ways with a water hose to get the crud out of the heater core. I have flushed it with CLR as well.
You did not mention which motor you have but if it is the 22r motor, another common problem I find is the hose that connects to the horse shoe pipe from the water pump. They tend to get neglected. Because it is so close to the alternator, I disconnect the battery when working on this hose and also cover the hose clamp with electrical tape when installing.
Copied...
Parts store will tell you this is a dealer item or they do not stock it. This hose likes to leak coming off of the water pump or pops a hole. Gates PN#20801, just cut off where my finger is at. A lot cheaper then the dealer.

I was getting a random flushing noise when I drove it, after I flushed it. I just topped off the radiator and slapped the cap back on. So the problem seems to be taken care of. That you all for the input. Seriously, it helped a ton.
