thermostat cable
hi,
i have a '90 toyota 4x4 with a problem. the thermostat control slider in the cab must be binding. when i slide it to full heat (red), i have to reach under the passenger side dash and physically move the arm that allows warm air to flow through the duts. took me a while to disover this. at first i began by troubleshooting that i had hot water flowing into and out of the heater core (i do) and the blower motor was pushing air through the ducts, but it wasn't hot. next i confirmed that moving the cockpit slider was working the cable in the engine compartment, opening that valve for the heater core (it was). finally i found that another cable is involved in the process (the one under the passenger side dash. unless i move it with my hand, there's no heat, but it moves easily from hot to cold. what's the solution? new cable? lubrication? this is an inconvenience..anyone else have this problem? btw, i'm brand new to the forum. i used to have an '88 deluxe 4x4, but sold it in '90. very glad to have another toy! i'm very active on pelicanparts.com, a porsche forum..i have a 1974 porsche 911. i tried to set up my username as the same as it is on that forum 'bigchillcar', but i screwed up and missed the 'c' when i registered. any help on how to correct my username would be appreciated as well.

welcome to our little family, make sure you read the newbie section as soon as you can, lots of tips there.
you may have to become a contortionist to get at that cable under the dash! you may want to look through this and see if you can use any to help make access easier:

as for your forum name, pm corey (site admin) and explain your dilema and he should be able to get you sorted out.
