Tailgate Wiring Nightmare

I recently bought an '87 4Runner project with, among other things, an inoperable tailgate window. I figured it would need a relay or something.

Once I opened the trim on the tailgate, I found a disaster. It turns out the previous owner hacked the crap out of the harness (basically 24" or so from the regulator to under the jack storage area) and went as far as removing wires from the factory plug. I think he was attempting to wire it to a toggle switch or something.

Based on what I see, I think I can match and fix most of it. Basically he removed the wires that were for the back door control switch, door lock detection, and the limit switch (I think). The big mystery for me is the plug that goes to the tailgate key. Did that go to the tailgate harness via a plug too? It doesn't appear that the wiring from the key switch matches the colors on the bundle back to the window relay...but it almost has to be part of this loop. Anyone have any ideas or photos of the wiring?

Anybody have a tailgate harness sitting around on a parts truck that they'd be willing to part with?

Theres a matching plug that has a split harness. Two of the wires (blue/white & blue/black) go to the window regulator. These are the up/down power out wires for the key activation. The other 3 wires (blue, Green?, White) go to the harness that exits the gate on the lower drivers side and runs to the front to get power. The blue is power in for the key switch and the green & white are for the license plate lamps. I believe these join another group of wires and there was a plug just outside the tailgate.

If your looking at that plug you have in your pic the spades that have 3 in a line are for the key switch and the 2 in line spades are for the lamps.

I just yanked a harness out of an old tailgate that I think is all there, maybe just missing an end of the defrost connection. I'll go out and look it over in the morning and take some pics. If its what you want $20 shipped and its yours.

You my friend are my hero for responding....

The harness you have...would this be "plug and play" for bundle that comes from the window relay (as in the big plug under the jack) and go to the window motor, the interlock switches, and the white plug that goes to the tailgate key?

I can live with the defroster issue (I'll make something)

Please send me a pic! I'll post better pictures later tonight or tomorrow AM.

Here's a better pic of what I was left with. What a sad mess.

Here's the harness. Labeled it up with what plugs go where. It would be plug and play except for the defroster wire which would need a new end.
