Tach bounces and CEL flashes
I have been trying to figure out what is going on with my 95 4Runner 3.0 for the last couple of weeks now. The problem started when I came in from towing my boat back to town, the check engine light came on with a 25 which I think now is bogus because I can smell fuel like it's running rich. I know that the #5 cylinder is low on compression but it's only down to 150 lbs. and all the rest are at 180.
Here is the most current indication I am working on. When the truck is cold and I am in traffic every time I let off the gas the tach bounces and the CEL flashes. After the truck warms up this stops, so if I can find out what is causing this it may be the same thing that is causing the girl to run so rough.
This weekend I am going to try and test the Air Flow Meter located in the top of the air filter canister, and the Throttle Position sensor, which will probably make me pull the throttle valve apart to test.
Any suggestions as to where the problem is would really be appreciated.
Thanks for any help.
Jerry

Sounds like you got a loose ground wire somewhere or possibly a shorted wire in your engine harness. Just a guess, but you might check the wiring harness to look for abrasions or loose connections under the hood..
