Tach for 88 and 94 PU?
Hi. Just wondering if someone changed their instrument clusters from a Speedometer only to one with Tach?
Do they just plug in or is there some additional wiring involved?
1st car is a 88 PU 2.4L
2nd car is a 94 PU 3.0L
Didn't pull them out yet to look at or looked at any wiring diagrams or compared the clusters to ones with tach.
Don't want to buy them untill i know what is involved.
Thanks
Mark

search the forums here, there are a ton of threads about SR5 gauge cluster swaps. here's some tips to get you started:
- swapping between engines sizes doesn't work well because the speedo and tach are calibrated differently and will read wrong.
- swapping between auto trans and manual will probably require some re-arranging of the wires in the wiring harness (you can easily pop them out with a pick, but you have to trace the wires from a diagram to see where they should go)
- use a cluster from the same generation of truck, it'll be mostly plug and play. I'm not even sure a 94 cluster will fit in an 88 or if the holes will line up, and the wiring will most certainly be different if the plugs even match at all. look on ebay or junkyards for one that is a closer match and you will save yourself a lot of headaches.
- you will need to install a proper oil sending unit if the new cluster has an actual oil pressure gauge and not just an idiot light. DONT plug in the wire from the old switch to the new cluster if you haven't got the sending unit yet.

Thanks for the reply.
Just to clear thinks up. We actually have two Trucks. A 88 and a 94. I am not trying to put a 88 cluster in a 94 or a 94 cluster in a 88. Just want to upgrade both.

dude... I did that, not every single issue is talked about, I found a thread that talks about cable driven speedos, I have an electric drive
I found the fix on toyotanation's forum, and did it to fix my issue
