T3 or CT26 Swap?

I have an 86 22RTE in my 87 4Runner and I'm looking to get rid of the factory CT20 before it goes out on me and gain some more power with my replacement. Which turbo will give me more performance gains? And what is the difference in the amount of work needed to make them fit? I have a buddy that I can probably get a T3 off of a Ford 2.3L for pretty cheap, but if the CT26 is a better option and much easier to swap in I will go with that. Any advice is greatly appreciated. I want to learn.

Go with the T3. Easier to find and rebuild kits are cheaper. It would be a good chance to upgrade your manifold as well. Steed Speed is a good one to choose.

Is it a major pain in the butt to reroute the oil and intake lines with a T3? I'm a little worried about that. Could I see a picture of your engine compartment to see your intake setup and oil lines and everything?

I've seen a bunch of T3 turbo manifolds on ebay that a guy makes by hand that look pretty nice. I think he asks $250 for them. They look a lot like the steed speed ones.

I wouldn't go with those cheap manifolds. I have one and as soon as I get the money, I plan on replacing mine with a Steed Speed one.

Very poor flow design. Mine was really warped too, but I don't know if they come like that or not

Yea probably but I still would save the money and get a steed speed. Have you looked at the 22rte-trucks website?

Im on the same road as you

Ive got most of my setup accept the turbo and intercooler. Im going with a top mount running a T3, just havent found the one i want yet. I purchased one of the ebay manifolds and it honestly looks like a good flowing design and the welds look like there done very well. God i hope it doesnt warp and blow up. The Steed Speed manifolds look sick and they hold up very well but the price was too high for me.

There was someone selling a TEC kit on the RTE forums, maybe contact him? Anyways good luck
