Oh, you solid axle guys are all alike. Brag! Brag! Brag!......hahaha. Actually, I'm just envious. Wish oil pans on IFS were that easy. That's one thing I loved about my '78 Plymouth Trailduster.... SFA. That and the LSD's and locking T/C. Hated the 12mpg, though. 318's....pffft!

That and the fact that it had a 5lug dana 60. Had a 79 ramcharger myself with the 360. Loved that old rust bucket.

I knew mine had Dana/Chrysler axles, but I didn't know if it was 44 or 60. Didn't know enough about axles back then. I do know the gears weren't very low. Atleast, not compared to my 4rnr. I could have the Plymouth in low/lock and still have to use the brakes to come down my hill. With the 4rnr, I just crawl down mostly.

That Plymouth, though..... it never got stuck! I got my '70 Chevy 1/2 ton stuck in the woods (someone told me it had posi-track....call me naive ) down a steep 3 stage loggin road goin' for firewood one winter. The old farmer said I'd have to wait until spring to get it out.....not even his tractor would be able to do it. So, as a last ditch effort, my wife and I got a ride back to our place and went back with the Plymouth....had a Kumho Powerguard M/T's on it. Wow! Got it up and out with firewood in tow with fingers and toes crossed the whole time, of course. The old farmer couldn't believe it and offered to buy the rig outright. And, he had an old Ford 4x4 P/U sittin' at the side of his house! I guess he wasn't that confident in it's capabilities. Lol! Were that thing not so rusted up, wire rotted, and a big gas hog I'd have kept it.

At one point, after I bought the 4rnr, I'd thought of swapping the axles from the Plymouth over to it, but I didn't think it could work. Just as well, I suppose. Like I said, the axles weren't geared very low. 3.somethin' or other, I believe.

Yeah most other vehicles gear down at the tcase so the axels could stay geared higher, keeping the r&p a little thicker. Unlike our yotas where all the gearing is done at the axle.

Not alot of gear options for those 5lug Dana60s. Completely different than the ford or dodge 60. Plus the diff is driver side so you wouldn't have been able to do the swap without some mod skills. Problem I'm running into now. I've got a set of Dana60s, but I'll probably have to trade it for a chevy 14bolt.

Just food for thought

Well, the Plymouth was an auto with a chain driven case, so that might have something to do with it.....no?

You're looking for different axles for your 'Yota? What's a Chevy 14bolt from?

Is that mud, or did you just drive through the Quaker Oaks oatmeal factory?

Lol. Call me a crazy hell bent 100% Texan, but yall's mud just ain't look right.

All my vehicles get that kind of paint job every time it rains (or whenever you run over a fire hydrant and decide to make the best of it. Toemato, tomoto). We just ain't had a good storm in months

Just for reference, since this thread has already been brought back to life, that sign is not actually there.

cause before i had the chevy 63" springs on the rear, it was really bumpy. but the 63s w/o the overload make it was smoother.
