stuck without a clue

This started when i eased off in to much water with my 95 runner (3vze) it cut off instantly. I didn't try to crank it back, i got pulled out the hole and pulled to the house. I know it sucked water into the motor. I pulled all the spark plugs out removed all the belts and put a ratchet on the crankshaft bolt and was turning it by hand. It pushed the water out the cylinders but then gets stuck at a certain point. I turned it the opposite way and it turns for a sec then gets stuck again. When ever it comes around there is a clankin noise sounding like its coming from the oil pan. Should i drop the front differental and pull the oil pan and see if its fixable or start a motor search. If it is a broke rod can i just replace that one rod. Or can i remove that one rod and run on 5 cylinders till i can afford a motor? I need some good ideas please.

if you bent or broke the rod, chances are the crank journal is messed up too, if not then crank is bent as well. So no. And if you broke the rod, chance are the cyl wall is messed up as well.

Ok, so then it would be a waste of time to pull the oil pan hu? Then my next question is, where could i get the best price for a motor, because i love my runner and don't want to get rid of it. And what motors, if any are compatable with what i have. Or, what can i do to fix it or can it be fixed?

i'd pull the pan first to confirm what the issue is... but more than likely its trashed.

as far as motors swaps, the 3.4 is very popular (see picture above). the chevy 4.3, toyota 1uz, toyota 3rz, SBC, are also able to fit. there is a whole section dedicated to motor swaps. there are TONS of hours of reading
