Strange tranmission issue
HI everyone,
I just bought myself a 94 4 4x4 Runner with 128k original miles. I've owned it since at least Christmas, great car. However it seems like the last few days i've been experiencing some auto shifting issues. The truck has a issue where it will not upshift from 2nd into 3rd occasionally, and keeps reving the only way i'm able to fix this now is by stopping the car and re-engaging into drive then it disappears the rest of the time.
I took it to a tranmission shop today and the mechanic drove it and said " It seems to be working fine" It's like trying to chase down a gremlin lol.
They didn't have time to drop the pan today to see exactly what was going on. But they speculated it could be a faulty solenoid valve, or a dirty valve and or a loose cable and vac lines.
I heard this is pretty common to a extent anybody have any advice or opinions please let me know.

One of the solenoids may be sticking, that's the most likely scenario.
Since it's intermittent I doubt it's the kickdown cable.
I also don't think your trans has any vacuum lines for shifting [just for 4WD operation].
You could try a drain and fill.
Dropping the pan and cleaning the filter wouldn't hurt either.
There's no need to replace the filter, it's steel mesh, so it's cleanable.
