Stole my cat!
Yesterday I went home around 2:30 to swap my motorcycle for my truck. I started it and was a tad startled yet strangely pleased at the nasty raspy roar that filled the underground parking garage. At first I didn't think anything that vicious could come from my 3.0. It thought it wasn't my truck but then revved it and knew that it was. Upon investigating the cause, I was made aware that there is a large part of my truck's exhaust missing. Turns out someone stole the catalytic converter. You can even see the yellow paint from the fresh blade they used to cut it out.
Well I have a new cat and cat back exhaust. What a weird thing to steal. I guess platinum must be worth it.

WOW, that sucks... at least you got it replaced! I have this fear tingling in the back of my head that someone is gonna steal the KC Daylighters off of my Nissan's Roll bar... That's really piss me off... But a Cat? Now that's strange...

A cat. around here brings as much as $200. each for scrap. Not much you really can do to stop someone from cutting it off. Cordless sawzall and it's cut off in about 1 min. Really sucks that people can be that low.
And some people wonder why I have an alarm system.

They had that happening up here in Maine too-cut them & bring em to the scrap yard. I think the only way to make it less accessible would be some sort of skid plate-flat belly pan that you would have to remove in order to get to it, but that would be a PITA.

just weld a nice thick rod from the top of the cat to your frame or somthing. One more thing they have to cut. Wouldnt you think cops would contact the locals scrapers and tell em about cut off cats??

Just rig it so the cat supports something heavy and sharp and when it's cut off it falls on the bastard. But you guys are in the US so you'd probably be sued for the guy that got hurt stealing your stuff.

It's been happening so much around here that scrap yards are now required by the state to get photo ID of anybody bringing any metals in. People have even been stealing the copper piping out of new construction homes.

Damn I threw mine away when I cut it out last month. DAMN! Whats the benefit of keeping that damn thing on your truck? Mine was just restricting my exhaust and being 20 yrs old its exempt from inspection anyway. Someone fill me in if Im missing something please.
