Still sputtering
Alright! I can't seem to get this fixed. I am still having problem with my 4runner. It sputters and coughs like no other. This happens when I start up until I get it going, when I am at a light, or when I am driving and go to increase my speed. It seems to be getting worse. The only time it runs smooth is when I am driving on a long trip. I've had two mechanics look at it. One said it was my injectors all gummed up because we found some oilish liquid in the air hose closest to the engine. So I was running fuel injector cleaner through, but to no real improvement. Then the next guy said it was probably the tps (and that is was telling the throttle to stay open) and he sprayed some WD40 in there and sent me on my way.
I have replaced the plugs, plug wires, whole distributer assembly, the fuel filter, and the air filter is clean.
Also it's burning really black. Smells like it's spraying gas out the exhaust and there is wet black residue on the tail pipe. When I finally get it going there is a huge black cloud. My guess is that it's running too rich and getting too much gas and that's why it's choking.
Any help would be awesome.
I will be checking replies a few times today because I am driving a long way tomorrow and need to get this fixed.

Some of the things I would check would be the
AFM (air flow meter). I had a bad one (because I opened the seal and screwed with it ), it made the fuel mix really rich and my idling was nuts.
Your TPS could just need adjusting. There are a bunch of writeups on that if you do a search. Also, the throttle body could be dirty. You can clean that when you do the TPS.
Only other thing I can think of is the Catalytic converter. If it's clogged. Get underneath the truck (engine off) where it is, and bang on it with something. If you hear an obvious rattling sound, it's bad.
I don't know much about the Injectors or intake, so I'll leave that alone.

Those injector will never be clean by some formula so its best is to replace them, from I know it also cannot be clean and is best is to replace them every 100,000 miles.
