Steering wheel swap: 2nd gen to 1st gen

I am looking at swapping a 2nd gen steering wheel (with cruise buttons. My plan is to repurpose the cruise buttons to control the stereo volume and track while keeping a factory look. I read somewhere that this steering wheel will bolt up just fine but the turn signal switch doesn't match so it won't cancel the turn signal after a turn.
Curious if anyone has put this steering wheel in a 1st gen before and were you able to overcome the turn signal issue? If I buy one on eBay do I need to make sure it comes with anything else to make this work? Do I need the donor clockspring? Turn signal switch?

The wiring is easy... just don't want to buy an $80 steering wheel on ebay and have no way to cancel the turn signal automatically!

I have that steering wheel on my 84. The turn signals work fine. However the horn will not work. The steering wheels with the buttons do not have the contact on the back of the steering wheel for the horn. I believe you could cannibalize your 88 wheel and remove the contact from the back and install on the newer wheel. I plan to try this on my pickup, but I have not tried yet.

That’s awesome. Thanks for the feedback! I’m sure the horn can be sorted out as you said. Guess I need to order one now!
