Steering went out...

88 bodylifted toy 4x4 xcab

Looking at it it appears that the linkage from the steering rod to the box is all solid, but when turning the wheel, it's just like spinning the Wheel of Fortune. Ocassionally it feels like it tries to catch on something when I turn the wheel, and I can feel my wheels begin to turn......but then it seems to slip right by what it was catching on and spins freely again. Not sure where the problem is. ANYONE seen anything like this before?

HAve someone turn the steering wheel back and forth while you poke your head around under the hood and the front of the truck. What you are looking for is to follow the steering linkage from the steering wheel/shaft to the box then along to the wheels. You are looking for the upstream part that moves and the downstream part that does not. Where the motion stops is the source of the problem.
