Are they the same all the way around or is there a key so the pitman arm can only go on one way? I'm trying to sort out a steering issue. It seems like my pitman arm must be installed crooked.

 

The splines should be the same all the way around, as far as a key my 93 doesnt have one. Sounds like when it was replaced someone didn't make reference marks or something is bent

 

It's got a lift with a dropped pitman arm. The guy I bought it from paid a shop to lift and align it. It doesn't make tight left turns. It's not hitting the steering stops, it's the steering box running out of rotation. There are no threads on the driver side tie rod and like 10 on the passenger side, plus the pitman arm is cocked about 20 degrees to the driver side with the wheels straight. So, I suppose the pitman arm could have been installed crooked and then the alignment adjusted to compensate. I've only ever had the pitman arms off of Jeeps. Jeeps can't be put on wrong, there's a key/keyway. So, either Yoder pitman arms can be clocked wrong and whoever lifted my truck is a moron or the truck has a bent frame. I'm hoping it's just the pitman arm.

 

Why dont you take the pitman arm off and move it to the passager side the 20deg and see if that will do the trick. Than realign

Because I've never done a pitman arm that CAN be installed crooked before so it seemed worth asking about to be sure. I'm stationed overseas, so I'm going to have to order a remover online to fix it. That's why I posted here to ask if it was possible to install one wrong on this truck before I spent any money. Looking at it in my driveway is one thing, but you guys are the experts. Thanks for the replies fellas. It'll probably only take me 30 minutes to sort it out now that I know what I'm dealing with.

It's a 4" Pro Comp bracket lift. I decided to use a big hammer and just get it done. I now have the pitman arm straight when the wheel is straight. Of course, by straight I mean centered, slightly inboard with the idler arm at the same angle inboard. Since it was turned outward about 20 degrees before it was about 40 degrees off. I adjusted the tie rods equally with the wheels straight until the steering wheel centered. Now everything is centered with the truck going down the road and it makes the same radius turn left and right. I win!

The only question that kept me from tearing into this last weekend was the whole keyed or not keyed pitman arm thing. I could have just removed it and found out for myself, but it wasn't worth all that banging and swearing when you guys are just a click away. Thanks again.
