All:

Would like some insight in tracking down some starting issues that I am having. The issue is that with a ratio of about 2:1 my 1st gen (22RE) does not start (turn key and nothing happens, don't hear click). When the truck does not start, I am able to get it to jump every time using my handy portable jump start battery. However, this is rather inconvenient, so I am wondering where I should look to in trying to track down the problem.

Here is some background:
- starter was replaced with a rebuilt unit in 2006 (~30k miles ago)
- battery was replaced in last 2 years
- alternator was replaced (Toyota reman unit) 1 month ago
- last week brought it to Schucks and had them perform their charging system test, and both battery and alternator tested in good condition

Is it possible that the starter contacts are going out? Or is this more like a slow draw somewhere in the system (that I am never going to find) that drains the battery overnight? If it is the latter, is there a problem with simply jumping like I am every other day or so?

could be a draw on the battery, also check the the battery connections maybe they are loose or corroded causing high resistance. what kind of battery are u using? i run an optima in mine

 

Im leaning towards the battery connections, or the battery is bad. You can get a tester and test the cells in the battery to make sure

 

i have had the starter brushes go bad in 2 22r/re motors...Are you sure they replaced them when the starter was rebuilt take the starter off and have it tested...That would be the 1st place I look. To test your cables just use a volt meter and measure the votlage drop across the wire.

 

OK, maybe the place to start is to clean battery terminals (haven't done this in a while). Battery is not an optima, but Schucks version of a gel-cell battery (can't remember manufacturer). Thanks for the replies.
