Started tinting my windows today!

hey guys,
Ive been wanting to get my windows tinted for a long time, i was going to have a pro do it but i was walking through the local wal-mart today and noticed this 5% tint for $12 a roll and its a 2.5 bye 6.5 foot roll. so i got started today, all i got done was the main windows on my front doors, so ill get most of it finished tomorrow and have more pics for yall to look at, but in the meantime here are some from today....

what do yall think?

aw man that blows, we have restrictions here in AR on how far you can go down. yea i know that the 5% is illegal, but just about everyone runs it on there truck, and have never been harassed by a cop once. so im taking a chance.

Looks good. It looks like you got it on w/o any creasing.

Just want to throw this at you....I have been tinting my own cars for about 10 years and bought the Wal-Mart stuff about 5 years ago when they first started selling the new brand that you probably bought (all they sell). It had a guarantee not to fade, but it started to turn purple after a year and was completely purple at the two year mark. I hate when tint turns purple.

You can buy the pre-cut stuff or tint by the foot on eBay and it does not turn purple like Wal-Mart/Auto Parts stores. I usually buy my tint by the 100ft roll now. It is a higher quality and I have enough to do other cars too.

well guys its gonna be a little while till its done. i just noticed that this crap is the "easy remove" it comes off like on big christmas decal. plus its way to thick, and at night you cant even begin to see out of it if theres no lights or anything. so im going to pull this stuff off and order some like hatda02 said by the big roll and do it that way. but i will for sure keep yall updated on it, im gonna keep the 5% all around but just need to order some new stuff.

Looks good, but I think 5% is an awful idea.... sorry

It cuts down visibility way too much, can lead to greater chances of accidents with pedestrians or cars, and will attract attention from officers. Tint is dangerous for them if they can't see. I had 5% on rear and back side windows, with 20% on fronts, back was way too dark and I could not see anything when backing up. Please check around with people who already have tint and know what they have % wise, and try to see what it is like with 15-20% all around at least...

for any help, I remember this link going around a lot a year or two back here as a good source... http://www.tintdude.com/

Good luck

a lil tip from a guy that did it to many many cars and trucks even all my cars and trucks

take the film clear side towards you, and spray the outside of the window to be darkened then cut to fit when doing windows that move you just give an inch in the way it moves(ie if it goes down you leave an inch at the bottom) then you spray the inside of the glass remove the clear stuff and spray the film then install using a card or a kit that they sell and for the love all thats dark please dont use glass cleaner with aminoa it will "eat the film"

and boy oh boy 5%on the fronts you got balls!! heres my set-up from front to back

35% on both front doors 20% on the sliders 5% on the way back glass and 2.5% on the rear glass!! i love it cant see in on day time but i can see you at all hours of the day and most of the night lol

looks really really good though buddy i like it!

Really?
I know that front tint is illegal in BC but I had always heard that it was okay in Alberta. I hear a lot of things that are illegal for our trucks in BC are legal in AB.

I have 15% on the back, sides, and the strip over the font window. IMO, it's perfect. Dark enough to look black from the outside, but no visability issues even at night.

20% would be lighter. The % represents how much light it lets threw. The lower the #, the darker the tint.

PS: I had mine done professionally at a shop, so I can't help ya out with the proceedure any, lol, sorry
