If it's a timing chain knocking on the cover because of the lack of timing chain guide then it will be fine for a while but then wear a hole in the cover and it will seem as though you have a head gasket problem, water in oil or the oil pickup tube will have the chance of picking up the guide material that makes it into the pan and cause a whole bunch of problems. If you don't catch either timing chain problems soon enough well engine will be toast. If it's a slight rod knock then it will last a while too but eventually it will take the bearing AND the crank with it. Big problems. If it's a piston slap, you can almost go the entire life of the truck with it. But eventually it will affect the compression.

22r's and 22re's do make normal valve train noise which should not be described as knock but a tap. As well as normal injector noise, but the injector noise could be rather loud which would indicate a bad injector.

In short figure out what is making the noise and then determine if it's ok to leave it alone or not.

As a happy medium offering, let's just say, whatever the nature of your beast, it is.

No engine knock should be normal. Sorry I think you are going to need expensive engine repairs. Walk on this one unless its a steal.

My engine ended up cratering after about 800 miles after buying the truck. Put a new long block in and all is well. Hopefully your knocking noise is not an issue. I am not sure if my knowcking noise was related to the engine failing as right before it happened I got a new louder knocking noise while driving and it didn't last a few miles after that.

Do you think I should be worried about the noise, it's not really a knocking but a clicking noise. And I just found out I need a new knock sensor also
