hey everyone new member here


i recently bought a 1987 4runner and when i bought it the thing drove fine well i had to drive it home like 80 miles. the truck has been sitting for 5 years but did fine on the drive well when i got off the freeway the truck just stalled when i came to a stop. i took it out again and the same thing happened???

it idles at 100rpm in park but the minute i put it into drive or reverse it bogs down to about 500rpm if not lower and sometimes it just stalls, the engine misfires fretty bad at about 2500 rpm could this be a timing isssue??? help please

 

You meant 1000 not 100 rpm right. Are you guessing at the rpms or do you have the tachometer in the dash?

If it sat for five years it's time for a full tune up and inspection, you'll want to go over the whole vacuum system and check all the rubber hoses are good none of the filters are clogged and that sort of thing.

There are maintenence check lists in the manuals. Should get you started.
