I have an 87 pickup 22R manual trans, when I give it gas it tries to stall, unless I floor it, and even then it's iffy. I hooked up a manual choke cable and that makes it run fine, as long as the choke is closed. When I open up the choke all the way and give it gas it tries to stall again.
