Hey guys... when I start my truck up in the morning (22RE) and start driving (w/o warmup), I get this sloshing sound that sounds like its coming from between the cabin and the engine compartment. It sounds like water in a tub splashing around. It normally goes away after 5 minutes of driving and can only be heard when starting, stopping, or shifting from 1 to 2.

Any ideas?

maybe it could have something to do with the heater core and low coolant?
thermostat stuck open?

 

if you have AC it's a sign of imminent failure. i think it's a result of a leak somewhere in the AC system. not postiive though.

 

Sounds like an air pocket flowing through your heater core.

1. Start the engine cold with the radiator (not overflow resevoir) cap off.
2. Let it warm all the way up to operating temp (@ 5-10 minutes).
3. Top off the radiator with coolant if it's not up to the opening on the radiator.
4. Continue to run for another few minutes to flush out any more air pockets.

This works best if you have the front of the truck slightly uphill. That should solve your problem.

 

my uncles 85 does the exact same thing, i had always wondered what it was but never payed too much attention to it

 

its coolant flowing through the heater core...nothing out of the ordinary. ive been in three yotas, they all do it, including mine..

 

My '94 and my '88 both do it, despite trying to burp all the air out as posted above. I've owned the '88 for almost 15 years, and it has always done it.
