Need to replace speedometer my 1989 4WD PU, mine doesn't have the tach or trip meter. Can I replace my unit with one that has the tach and trip meter? Will the plugin wiring work for the fuel and temp gauges. And what would I need for the tack?

This should have all of the information you need and then some. There are differences between years and options so pay attention to that. For the tachometer, check out the "Special Notes" section at the bottom of the first post in the first link I posted.

Just curious, is your speedometer not working or are you just looking for a better gauge cluster?

If it does not work you could have a loose or broken speedometer cable, and a new gauge cluster will not fix that (assuming your truck is cable driven).

Remember to Google search before posting. Many, many topics have already been covered and you can learn a lot from just doing a simple search.

Yeah buddy, very doable. If you're swapping odometers across clusters (as I did) just go slow, and it'll be fine. Do not twist needles to remove, just pull straight out steadily, it'll come off. If it's from a V6>I4/I4>V6, there's some Nike adjustments to be made for the tach, but easy. Read through those threads posted, they cover juuuuust about everything. Hit a problem, just yell. Good luck!
Oh, and DO NOT hook up the oil pressure sender until you are 100% sure you have the correct one for the cluster with oil psi gauge.

 

Thanks for the help. The speedometer started to chirp and just quit. I picked the truck up from a family member who bought it new. They believed in changing oil when it was on sale not when needed. Price was right ( $200) so my son and I have gone through the engine and trans. When I got the truck the speedometer didn't work so I took it to a speedometer repair shop and everything worked for about 7000 miles and thats where we are at. It was just suggested by one of the son's friends to swap the cluster. I found a used cluster with a warranty for 30 days which gives me some time to make sure it works. I also ordered a new cable assembly, I couldn't even get the old cable out of the housing without a bench vise and some strength to yank it out. So I was kicking the idea about the SR5 cluster around (son wants truck when I am done with it so he is all for it). Appreciate all the info.
