Speedometer acting up then quit.

Ok Ive been searching but haven't seen too many helpful threads. So I went to take a short trip up into town and my speedo was operating fine then I noticed it was staying at 30 when I was driving. No matter if I slowed down or sped up it didn't move. SO I shoved in the clutch killed the truck and turned it back on and let out the clutch, I did that twice then It started operating normally. Well I went to leave the store and it wouldn't do anything. I had noticed that when I hit the brakes to slow down to make a turn the speedo started bouncing around.

Things I have checked. 12v's at the plug going into the sensor, and 13ohms at the sensor. My chiltons manual isn't very helpful on the speed sensor.

Pulled the sensor out and the drive gear looks fine and the fluid level and such seem good.

I just had the dash apart cause I heard a ticking noise behind the gauge cluster, but all the plugs where in good and the circuit board seem fine.

So does anyone else have any ideas.

Edit:

My truck is a 92 single cab 22re 5spd 4wd.

Ok, Idk what I did but I hooked the speed sensor back up and played with the fuses under the dash and it started working.

I have been having a similar problem....
I have a 93 with an electric speedometer, mine will jump all over the place some of the time or read 100 mph at about 45 mph actual speed, then periodically will not read at all. I am not sure if it is the speed pick up, a short or the speedo. Does anyone know how to check the speed pickup with a multimeter and possibly the wiring between it and the speedo?

Mine never gives me a false reading like that. It either gets stuck at one mph or when I hit my brakes stats going up and down.
