Post Speedo suddenly broke, whats goin on?

as i was driving down the road my speedo suddenly dropped to zero and i was goin about 45, what could that possibly be?

Cable broke if it is a cable style. Or a wire/sensor failed if it is the electric style. The sensor for the electric or the cable plug into the back of the transfer case.

considering it looks like he has an 89, that would be a cable driven speedo

Ya was not sure when they switched. I have heard many stories of mix and match cable/electric in different years and engine packages.

from what I dug up a while back when swapping in an SR5 cluster, 92 is the year they phazed out the cable driven speedos and went to the electric
