After you have installed a new cable, does the speedo work correctly for a while before the new cable breaks?

What exactly is breaking? That year it should be an electronic speedometer.

Not sure about Tacos, but my '95 5-speed 4Runner has a cable speedo.
I think that some earlier '90s' had electronic speedos, and then they changed back to cable for some reason.

yes but a toyota mechanic lubed it before it was installed this time and so far so good. the mechanic said that they should be lubed before installation because they get really hot when they spin thanks for the reply
