My name is Will and I have a 93 4runner 4wd with 107,000 miles. I have had it for a year or two and it's been nothing but reliable. Today I was driving and I noticed my speed wasn't working. Nor my odometers. any way it use to do this last winter when it had sat over night or longer and it was cold, but only for a block or two. This stopped when I changed my tranny fluid. That was a while ago and it hasn't done it once since then. Today though it stared doing it when I left to go to lunch and didn't work for several miles spread across a few different trips. As I kept driving the check engine light came on. I stopped checked the transfluid, with the motor running after shifting through all the gears. (p-1). All checked out. Feeling a bit ticked I got on the gas kind of hard. About to 4 grand or so, and it stared working. It worked for a while but it has now stopped again. Dose the ATF fluid have any relation? Dose the Speedo use a cable or is it digital? Could the check engine light have been related? Any ideas?

 

The 93s have an electronic speedo. The sending unit or whatever its called may have gone out/be going out.

 

Or the actual speedometer may have given out, that happened to me.
