Speed Sensor Location

92 4x4 22re 5 speed. Speedo stopped working and was wondering where the speed sensor is located. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Passenger side rear of transmission, follow the cables.

I think you mean rear of the transfer case (with a two-speed transfer case, it doesn't do any good to use the speed sensor in the transmission for the speedometer).

I believe the '92 has the electronic sensor, but if you find a speedo cable instead, you don't.

toyota used 2 kinds of ele speedo sensors. or body/wheel drive specific speedo cables. rock auto might have a cable.

There is also a speed sensor inside the instrument cluster

Good point. But this only applies to the cable-driven speedometer. If you have the electronic VSS1 on the transfer case, that replaces the reed-sensor in the cluster.

Mine ('94, 4x4) has the electronic sensor. I don't know which years/models that applies to.

92-94 are Electronic.

On my pickup witch is a 95 I think there are 2 speed sensors located in the transfer case and top of the transmission. I think 92 was when they switched it to electronic speed sensors.

Does anyone know how to remove the one on the transmission it is giving me some trubble.
