special service tool for vacuum booster rod
greetings yota fans,
I am replacing the vacuum booster on my '94 4runner, the FSM says use
special service tool 09737-00010 to measure and adjust (if necessary) the
booster rod length. I have not been able to locate one of these special tools
in my area, local toyota dealer is no help.. has anyone completed this job without using this measuring tool?? any suggestions will help... thanx...

The tool appears to be available at www.1sttoyotaparts.com. I did not adjust the pushrod on the last few master cylinders I have installed. I was just careful that the pushrod was not too tight as that would cause brake drag. Some of those vehicles I changed master cylinders on may have had some slight added play in the brake pedal (possibly from the pushrod being too loose), but never significant enough for me to tighten the pushrod.
If you do not buy the special tool, make sure the pushrod is not too tight when you install the master cylinder. If there is way too much too much play in the brake pedal after everything else is adjusted, then you can always tighten the pushrod a little.
