Spare tire rack

I have a 92 4runner and mine didn't come with a tire rack on the back behind the tailgate. I know a guy that has a 91 4runner that has the tire rack on it. Can I put it on mine or is there suports under the body on the corner were it mounts. Any help would be great.

It can be done. I put one from a 91 onto my 95. There is a brace that has to placed into the rear corner behind the sheetmetal. Also another thing to consider is what is the max tire you are wanting to put on it. I wouldn't put anything bigger than a 35". I can post some pics later if you would like.

Don't forget you need the tailgate that go's with it as well for the locking latch and back up lights. I myself am getting ready to do a retro to my 93 the one on my 90 carry's a 35 x 12.5 well but you do lose a lot of rear window viewing area so keep in mind tire size as stated before.

You can pull it if the donor truck can be completly hacked. You will have to basically cut out the entire rear passenger tail-light area and a little more sheetmetal. I will post some pics of what you are trying to get out of the donor truck. You don't have to get a different tail-gate if you have minimul fab skills to make the backing plate to match the latch assembly.

You can also make plates on your own to fit in behind the body and weld them in place. I used 1/8"x1" platbar and made a set to fit mine when I retro'ed the carrier on my 90. It's been holding up great for about 4 years now to a 33 on a steel rim, gonna add a gas can holder soon... (soon is relative because I have no garage to work in and I weld outside...)

No you don't, but the proper gate looks much better!

How do you get access to behind to weld the re-enforcement plates? And do you have pictures of your truck? And alsoI got the rack off that truck but I 4Runner was not running and they didn't have the keys so I could not get the back window down. Is there a way to open the back door to get it off?
