Sourcing a parking brake cable
Broke my parking brake cable (front one). I cannot find it anywhere, even online. Stealership has one and wants $85 for it.
Can anyone help me source this this for less that that?? Its all I need to pass inspection.
For $85 i'll BE a macadamia nut.

Is there another local dealer? I got mine for $60ish.
I think rockauto also has it for somewhere in the $40-50 range. If you do a search someone has posted the rockauto parts number in threads in the past.
edit: oh, and just a heads up for $85 its not just a cable. It includes the sleeve, as well as the fittings on both ends. If you need tips on replacing it look up my thread on it.

Not sure about CO but in in VT you need to pay for an anual inspection sticker that covers things from lights to exhaust to ebrakes. I can live without an ebrake, but my engine does lack the compression to hold me on 10% or higher grades.

Note to self: NEVER register the yota in VT. Honestly I never realized that the was a cable going to the front. I just thought it was to the back. You can try car-part.com or if you can get the part number from toyota you can try trdparts4u they have a banner in the vendor section. Atleast i think its them. There are a couple toyota vendors on here that give discounts.

it all depends on who you go to for the inspection. where my dad goes, they do EVERYTHING. they jack up the front end and check wheel bearings and ball joints, E brake, exhaust, emissions...pretty much everything. where i go, its lights, wipers, horn....pass

thanks for the ideas. Rock Auto does not carry front ones for extended cabs. I'll check again but I know I didn't see it.
The boneyard idea is okay but If i'm going to spend money I want to be able to use the brake. I dont want to brake it again right away.

Just called RockAuto, the lady told me the part is on NAT'L back order and toyota is the only place to get one. I may try my luck at the local hack shop and see if it doesn't pass

Sorry Newbie question. I just broke the emergency brake cable on my 94 4x4 ext cab. Cable broke right at the handle. I'm confused, is there 3 different cables for the emergency brake, one for the handle, one each for the front and rear?

There is two cables.
One from the middle of the truck to the handle.
Then one from the middle of the truck to the rear. The rear is all one peice, but has two cables at the end.
I have replaced both.

tied the cable in a knot so it wouldn't be seen dangling and the brake warning light shut off. I took the truck into a shop I've had good luck with inspecting other questionable things. They bs with me for 30 minutes about their wives and such, then looked out the window and we had this conversation:
Tech: "Looks like a solid rig. Those tires are junk though. Will it pass?"
Me: "Yeah it'll pass. I like my tires"
Tech: "Dont get me wrong I like em too, they're junk...Anything I should know about?"
Me: "I dunno i mean its pretty much good ta go"
Tech: "Lights work?"
Me: " Oh yeah, everything works"
Tech: "Should I throw it on a lift?"
Me: "Nah"
Tech: (looking out window still) "You need new whipers... okay grad your paper work and we'll give ya a sticker".
3 minutes later I walked out with a #4 blue sticker. I love this state.
