I just fluid film mine annually. Makes the undercarraige look damn near new, and it protects it well -hint - I'm about to do it again and there are still wet spots from fluid film from a year ago on my undercarriage.

Man, I'm sure pleased with it anyway. Got everything lined up PERFECT now. And the peace-of-mind knowing it will STAY that way.

Front axle is on the bench for to replace the pinion seal, repack CV boots, replace spindle seals, might lead to spindle needle bearing upgrade before it's over, who knows. Took it out before I installed the truss, been lazy and had no real need for 4wd so...

Don't do this and drive your vehicle without plugging the backside of the spindles up somehow. I bought some rubber stoppers at the hardware store for $1.50 each. Hammered those in there to keep the water/dirt out.

Jay - fluid film is sort of like WD40 but on steroids. You can find it at crappy tire in aerosol cans. About 6 cans will do the entire undercarriage of our trucks roughly - frame, axles, sheet metal, front ifs components, etc. http://www.eurekafluidfilm.com

No. It's a structural brace to prevent the frame from spreading apart or pushing together between the control arms. This can make alignment impossible if it bends too far. It's no simple task to straighten a frame that's been bent in such a way. Unless you work at a frame shop or know a guy who does. I've been there, done that. Never again, thankfully.

So, if you wheel your rig in even a moderate fashion, your risking bent frame trouble without a truss of some sort in there. It takes suprisingly little force to whack your frame crooked, trust me.

I would post pics of my undercarriage but my bloody digital camera crapped out on me recently and I'm still caught up in the "should I spend the $$$ on the waterproof version." Fortunately for myself, with a family member who works at a dealershiop, I just bring my truck in on a Saturday into the detail bay and get it up on the undercoating lift and pressure wash the piss out of it and then let it dry for at least a few hours and then go to town with the cans of fluid film. Trust me - this stuff is quite honestly the . I first heard about this by a guy who did an article for landcruiser enthusiasts. If you do a search on google you could probably find it. I'll see if I can arrange it, to use the gf's digital camera the next time I do it.

 

Coednaked: Is your truck undercoated? Do you do the film in addition or instead of the undercoating? I'd like to pretty mine up some when I get it on the road again and not sure which way to go.
