Solid Axle Kits

I am thinking about doing an SAS on a 1989 Toyota and have noticed a few different kits out on the market. I have searched the site but have had limited success on finding much information on which kit provides the best value.

Just wondering if the more experienced folks on this site have any preference on which kit to purchase?

Everyone will have a differing opinion like on any other topic

I use what I sell and have used and sold dozens or more. No complaints but like with anything the parts are only as good as the install.

well he has to do a 4x4 conversion also so that would prob be the easiest way on a 2wd chassis

Good call, I didnt recognize that. My bad.

However, Ive seen so many SAS'd showtrucks....it bugs me. Worse than that, DD 4wd SAS'd trucks that never see any dirt. Just to and from work. It seems like a waste of money and valuable Straight axles. Not trying to thread jack or go on a rant so Ill hush. Just sayin. If you are gunna use it, then by all means tear that mess up and do it right!

100th post!!!

Trail Mart will be the cheapest. I don't like the kit approach myself but I also know how to fab stuff and prefer to do that. I also believe they're the only ones that bundle 3" springs with their kit, which is all you really need unless you're going for the truck to be sky high.

IFS for me..always has been..Ive had both and unless u r off road at least 50% its a waste of time and $$..you should always build a truck for what you need and use it for not something you see in a magazine...I know many that have changed their IFS and only trail they ever see is the line of cars that goes around the mall..

X2, the only reason we did am SAS on my truck because we got tired of breaking cv axles and it the better availability of lift options, the only trail i see is muddy power lines

Exactly!!! Mybtruck goes back and forth to work, the beach, pulls my quad/motorcycle trailer, kid hauler, and "bro ill help you move" truck. When we get the chance to go offroad camping...my truck gets us there by trail or not. I go through sand, mud, and loose dirt mainly. This is just my case.....but IFS is the shizzle!!!! I like its versatility and comfy daily ride....for me and the family.

Guys, he has a 2wd truck. He's time and money ahead if he's going to convert to do it with a solid axle.

Definitely cheaper to convert a 2wd to 4wd with a solid front axle. Dont get me wrong guys, Im not against straihht front axle conversions as a whole. Just saying its not for me....and any more it seems like us IFS lovers are a rare breed.

What are you looking for? A straight wheeler truck or a DD that goes offroad every once in a while? If you are looking to build a straight up wheeler, I vote skipping the kit and fab up a link setup.

prob be easier to buy a 1st or 2nd gen (depending on if you want SFA or 4x4 IFS) and swap the camper body on it. then you can do away with the DRW axle and have axle and wheel options.

I'm happy with the sky's manufacturing parts I put on mine, but they were local for me too (60 miles away) so I had the parts the next day.

Even an IFS lover cannot deny the durability of a solid axle, I'm going to push the IFS on my truck as far as I can but it will eventually go away.

Yeah Sky's stuff is top notch, had a lot of their parts on my last truck. I go to them first for the same reason, not necessarily local but they are the little guy. Would hate to see them end up the way BigRocks Offroad did and get squeezed out of the market by the bigger guys.
