So tired of ppl telling me tha the 3vze is a bad motor

Everyone forgot, 3vzFe is almost like a whole different animal. I've been reading around here trying to decide a direction to go with our 2nd gen 4Runner. A 3vzfe out of a wrecked Camry is my new plan. Huge, broad powerband and with a not yet modified motor simply tuned a little better- 200hp. Sounds a little more stock-modified rather than custom pains from a 3.4 swap for the same, maybe, just maybe, better performance?

no one has done the swap. the intake plenum is facing the wrong way.
3VZE- 150HP 180TQ
3VZFE- 185HP 189TQ
5VZFE- 190HP 210TQ
as you can see the 5VZFE is the better swap, been done before with tons of help and support. if you already have a 3.0, the 3.4 bolts right in, dont need anything custom. only thing you really need to do is the wiring and exhaust, both can be brought pre-made.

I was reading it here somewhere about leaning the F's MAF cog and advancing the timing like we do with the E and it jumps to 200hp. I'm just trying to think outside the box, everyone has a 3.4 conversion.... Doesn't the supercharger kit eliminate the NA manifold? or we can just shorten that runner for the throttle body? When we break out of newbie status we'll try posting the first FE conversion manifold fix

My bad. So the option is to cut the manifold right at the mounting surface flange, then rotate the whole thing 180°, then re-weld, so the throttle body is now in the front of the 4Runner. Requires an electric fan conv. Maybe add a hood scoop since the intake is now right up front there. But I'm up for it, just for **its and grins. I think the varible length runners might do some good on the trail.

If you are going to all this effort of a swap and not doing the easy 3.4 why not just go pick up a running but used 1UZ or 2UZ?
I'm going to go that route, the engines are pretty common and not too expensive. Plenty of power and newer tech.

So the distributor moving to the passenger side bank, and "inside" the firewall... at least thats real info, Thank You Robertm . Not just a "you're dumb, fall in line with the same thing everyone else has" I also thought about a computer issue; Didn't Camry ONLY with a torque-converter? I have a clutch. These things are just machines, Like I previously stated: outside the box is most fun.
Thanks CDN-SMOKEJUMPER. I have heard the diesel is awsome, I'll check that option out

I agree with the point smokejumper was making.
If you're going through the trouble of a swap just to be different, make it different.
The 3vzfe is so much work for no real ability to tune past a 5vz.
If you want to be different, do a cool diesel, or something that can get you far greater fuel economy or power, or both.

Those aren't diesel engines. They are Toyota V8's.

I've been looking around, you can score one for under $1500 if you dig.
All kinds of power right out of the box. More than enough for a little 2nd Gen even after you put on big rubber and hang some steel off it.

As some of the guys have mentioned on here it all comes down to your experience with the 3vze. My personal experience was horrible. I never blew the head gasket on mine just had a bunch of different problems. Like random no starts that I could never figure out. I hated that it was hard to work on and it was completely gut less piece of crap especially with the auto tranny i had. My buddy had 2.7 4cyl in his taco and he blew the doors of mine 4Runner. After selling the 4runner i experimented with other cars and i was always negative about jeeps but did come across an xj for a price i could not say no to. IMO the 4.0l I6 is a much better powerplant than the 3vze. More power and a lot easier to work on. IMO more reliable too. After becoming a mechanic and learning a lot about cars my favorite cars became the cars that are the easiest to work on. The 3vze is not easy to work imo and i would never get another 3vze and i would never recommend the 3vze to anyone. And yes in my opinion the 3vze 3.0l V6 is the worst engine toyota put out

My buddy jokes about mine being built on a Tuesday afternoon during an exceptional shift at the factory. Mine runs great and has some power.
I've geared properly for my tires and have a manual though.
She does run really quite well though. Really pleased with it. It's an old design now so it's not comparable to modern technology. It is what it is and when I have the funds saved for a swap I'll replace it but wont have anything bad to say about it.
Really good memories of where it took me actually.
She's 200km away from hitting 270,000km.

This motor had never been rebuilt. A few starters, watr pumps, alternators ect.
Sounds pretty damned impressive to me
It still has good power but to my surprise gets almost the same mileage as my full size gmc 2500 6.5 turbo diesel. That' parts not to cool but otherwise this motor has never left anyone stranded and is a fantastic example of a great motor.

I might have the next one built. My father purchased it brand new in 1991. It has 580 thousand km /364 miles of mixed city and long haul highway.

I love owning one of the good ones.
Chef, when I move closer to main cities again I'll do the same.
Keep doing it in fact; make some extra cash. I've already bought two wrecks why not start buying ones with more expensive parts in them right?!

i have a 94. 187k
hasn't left me where i didn't want to be.
sucks on the grades, but it is what is. i don't expect 30mpg or to beat an is-F, or anyone for that matter, off the line. i got her cause at the time, i felt they were the most capable for what i wanted to do, and still view them(toyota cruisers, runners, pu) to still be FAR more capable than a lot sold today.
as far durability goes....another reason i rock yotas.
look all over the world and you see old toys still in use. hard use....machine guns/rocket launchers and 6 men in the bed, on dusty dirt roads in 137^ heat or sub-zero temps. they will take more than most can dish, and i will own mine forever.
